A barn away
Emily Wheeler is a senior at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in the morning and a caregiver to several horses at barns located in the area in the afternoon. Wheeler began her work as a horse barn keeper 3 years ago after seeing an advertisement asking for help in Open Eye Cafe, a local coffee shop. She has loved horses from a young age, however, she chose to refocus her energy from riding to care-taking after this opportunity arose. At one point, she was working at 5 barns and found herself hurrying to the car to begin making her rounds as quickly as possible to ensure all were fed and groomed before sunset. Wheeler finds her work to be therapeutic and enjoys the change of scenery from typical campus life.
